Celebrating Independence in July
In July, we celebrate independence! Along with Independence Day on July 4th, Old Colony Elder Services’ (OCES) is proud to support different cultures in their independence. One example is the Cape Verdean community who celebrates July 5th as their recognized Independence Day for Cape Verde. This holiday honors Cape Verde's independence from Portugal on this day in 1975 and is the nation's birthday.
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is June 15th. Old Colony Elder Services announces March Against Elder Abuse events in Brockton and Plymouth.

Volunteers Make a Difference
In April, we celebrate National Volunteer Month and all the individuals who generously donate their time and effort to make a difference in the lives of so many.

March is Social Work Month. Each day social workers help break down barriers that prevent people from living more fulfilling, enriched lives. Social workers take a person-centered approach, helping people overcome personal crises like food insecurity, lack of affordable housing, or limited access to health care.

Be Wary. Scams are on the Rise.
A scam is when a person or organization dishonestly attempts to obtain money, personal information, benefits, or something else of value from you. Scam attempts may be made in a number of ways, from email and text to a telephone call or an in-person attempt. Anyone can become a victim of a scam.
OCES has been awarded an Elder Mental Health Outreach Team Grant. The agency is expanding older adults’ access to behavioral health services and supports.

Old Colony Elder Services (OCES), the non-profit agency proudly serving older adults and individuals with disabilities throughout greater Plymouth County and surrounding towns, has been awarded an Elder Mental Health Outreach Team (EMHOT) grant from the Massachusetts Councils on Aging (MCOA). Funding for EMHOT has been produced from a grant awarded to the Massachusetts Association of Councils on Aging by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs.
OCES Announces Special Holiday Menus in December for Community Dining and Meals on Wheels Recipients

Diana DiGiorgi, Chief Operating Officer of OCES, Honored as she Retires
Brockton Mayor Robert F. Sullivan honored Ms. DiGiorgi for her leadership, dedication and commitment with an official Proclamation for her 26 years of service during a celebration that included the agency’s Board of Directors and staff at OCES’ Brockton office on Main Street.
